Amber, 17, and her best friend Sebastian are two queer kids who ignore judging looks and social order. Together, everything seems possible to them. Always Amber follows them through this time of fusing identity building, from their dreams to parties to new friendships. But when Amber comes to love Charlie, something begins to challenge their utopian world. The question of trust emerges and in the midst of it all, Amber has to grapple with the subject of their transition process on her own.
Shot over three years, this unique documentary paints the portrait of a new queer generation that no longer wants to let society dictate its identity. He describes not only Amber's transition, but also her friendship with Sebastian, soon upset by a first romantic experience. By giving us a glimpse of what it might be like to live on the utopian island of Amber, this work celebrates a broad spectrum of fluid identities and the richness of the close bonds emerging from that freedom.
