BERLIN BASED, by Vincent Dieutre
France, Germany. 2019. 90 '. Documentary. VF.
During a melancholy walk in Berlin and meetings with artists who live and work there, Vincent Dieutre takes note of the changes in this beloved city and Europe. Berlin, since the fall of the wall, has been the kingdom of revelers and artists. The anxiety of seeing this underground past blend into the gentrification is felt.
"Nothing in Berlin is innocent", it is on this basis that Vincent Dieutre delivers, through his meetings, a moving declaration of love to this city, 31 years after his Letters to Berlin. The charm of the shots, superimposed on the testimonies, form a personified city, at the same time protective and permissive mother, which lets unleash the energies of those which it collects. The deep reflection on the status of artist and european can not be found in this poetic rediscovery of the German capital. One wraps oneself in the director's reverie, sometimes disturbed by the regular prick of threats of change and closure, in a city still described as resolutely possible.
