Germany. 1999. 91 '. Fiction. VOSTF.
Director, screenplay: Kutluğ Ataman.
With: GandiMukli, Baki Davrak, Erdal Yildiz, Inge Keller.

Murat, 17, lives in Berlin. It is not easy to discover oneself as gay in a family of Turkish origin who considers homosexuality to be the worst abomination. He lives with his mother and Osman, his older brother, who became head of the family after his father's death. But Murat one day learns that Osman has hunted a third brother, also gay. The teenager then decides to go in search of the one who calls himself Lola, star of a transvestite show, and immerses himself in the Berlin underground. An extraordinary universe where he feels good and which allows him to go in search of his sexual and cultural identity.

A true antidote to racial and sexual prejudices, Kutluğ Atamana's film has won numerous awards, including the special jury prize at the Berlin Festival in 1999. Through the young Murat's journey gradually discovering his homosexuality, this refreshing work explores the Turkish community of Berlin and its ills: prostitution, urban and family violence… In addition to the irresistible Murat, we focus on the various characters: Lola the travelo, Bili (her very macho friend, in reference to Billy the Kid) and Osman, the older brother of Lola and Murat.

The screening will be followed by a debate with Anne Delabre, journalist, author and programmer of the film club Le 7e genre.
