Directed by Nico Papatakis (France - 1991 - 128mn)
With Michel Piccoli, Lilah Dadi, Polly Walker
Scenario by Nico Papatakis

Michel Piccoli incarnates a homosexual writer in search of inspiration who falls in love with a young man whose he wants to make the greatest balancing act in the world. Jean Genet wrote 'The Funambulist', Nico Papatakis directed 'The Equilibrists', inspired by the tumultuous relationship of the artist with Abdallah, which will end with the suicide of the latter, in 1964. The five films Papatakis are pitiless tables of class and gender relations: the eternal struggle between masters and slaves is at the center of his work. The films of this filmmaker of Greek and Ethiopian origin, who immigrated to France in 1939, are also allegories of cinema with characters who are directors of a fate of revolt that they decide both to practice and to stage. 'The Equilibrists' is a ritual and a cruel parody of the machine-cinema, and the defeat of the spectacular mechanism.
