New album for Baltimore's eccentric duo, Matmos, aka MC Schmidt and Drew Daniel.
Those who follow them know it, the previous record "Ultimate Care II" was composed of washing machine sounds (electro musique concrète?), The new, "Plastic Anniversary" is also derived from a unique sound source: plastic.
Fanatics, to the endists, politics?
At once hyper-familiar in its omnipresence and profoundly inhuman in its longevity and endurance in time, plastic is everywhere and humanity becomes aware of its power of nuisance.
True to its process, the group has assembled a multitude of plastic-based materials: bakelite, dominoes, polystyrene coolers, polyethylene waste containers, PVC pipes, silicone gel breast implants, synthetic human fat ... and even riot shields made of polycarbonate.
The result is a squeaky symphony, pocks and pics for a sort of disturbing but colorful electronic fanfare as the anti-hero of the album can be.
Greg Saunier, the intrepid Drummer of Deerhoof participated in the record, himself mastered by Rashad Becker.
It announces good.
And also, the group specifies that the disc is made from recycled materials.
It had to be said. http://www.thrilljockey.com/
John Wiese is from Los Angeles and now lives in Cleveland.
Composer, he is also active in the visual arts and video.
He has published, among others, a book "Deviate From Balance" (Hesse Press) documenting his work around photography, collage and typography.
Tonight, of course, this is music, and in this area John Wiese has a solid and legitimate reputation. Since 1995, he has been experimenting frantically with everything related to electronics and his discography counts dozens of references. From harsh grind noise of his band Sissy Spacek through his collaborations with Sunn O))), Merzbow, Wolf Eyes, C Spencer Yeh or a certain Drew Daniel ... John Wiese refines his approach and proposes something definitely new.
He works as well the assault, the minimal organic as the fragmented aspects of the sound material. http://www.john-wiese.com/ https://johnwiese.bandcamp.com/
