Director, screenplay: Roxanne Gaucherand
With: Lou Vaultier, Flavier Pons
Production: Quartett Production
In the heart of summer, the boxwood moth, an Asian butterfly accidentally introduced into France, seizes the Provençal Drôme and pushes the inhabitants to improvise defense systems to fight against invasion and devastation. In this apocalyptic climate, Lou, 18, discovers his feelings for his childhood friend, Sam. As the relationship between the two young women gradually turns into a love story, the urgency and the upheaval that Lou feels echo its surroundings: an ecosystem overturned by an unexpected invasion.
Guided by the voice of his heroine, Pyrale brilliantly interweaves sequences of journalistic investigation, documentary report, amateur video and initiatory narrative. Directed like a thriller, an unclassifiable and very accomplished cinematographic object whose universe constantly oscillates between real and fantastic.
