Three unpublished screenings in partnership with the
International Festival of Cinema of Marseille
the 12-13-14 July 2019

As part of the 30th edition of the International Film Festival of Marseille, the Collective IDEM offers you an unprecedented screening in France of "So Pretty", free adaptation of the novel-scenario "And when the prince danced with the coachman, they were so so beautiful in the original text that the whole court has failed. "
>>> A utopian film by the German Ronald M. Schernikau.

The original text was conceived as a sketch for a cartoon that Ronald M. Schernikau wanted to write with Berlin artist Thomas Schulz. In the end, the project was not done. However, decades later, Jessie Jeffrey Dunn Rovinelli saved this very strong stage work, and made it the screenplay for her twenty-first century love film.

Schernikau's semi-biographical romantic drama, which took place in West Berlin in the 1980s, is transposed here to New York in 2018, but this is not the only significant change we see in this non-academic adaptation of novel. The hero is no longer called Tonio but Tonia. The two gay couples with multiple loves of the book are now members of a small transgender community. Thus, the homosexual exploration and liberation that was the axis of the original text have been replaced by a new current battle: one that wants to eradicate the binary division of the sexes of human beings.

This fiction film shot in Super 16mm is a compilation of scenes on the daily life shared by this community.
Dunn Rovinelli offers us the portrait of a generation, this transgender youth with whom she identifies by gathering moments, as fleeting as eternal, of her walks, conversations, lunches, sexual practices and nocturnal escapes in discotheque, as well as his presence at political demonstrations or in favor of collectives LGTBI +.

This anthology (virtually documentary) about this community is presented alternately with the reading of passages from the novel by Schernikau whose content coincides with the crises and revelations that live the heroes of the film by practicing free love.
