A SPRING IN HONG KONG (SUK SUK)
Hong Kong. 2019. 92 '. Fiction. VOSTF.
Director and screenplay: Ray Yeung
With: Tai-Bo, Ben Yuen, Au Ga Man Patra
Pak is a 70-year-old taxi driver who lives with his wife. Hoi, divorced from his partner, lives with his son. The two men, who have lived their entire lives without revealing their sexual orientation, randomly meet on the streets of Hong Kong. As Pak and Hoi fall in love, they contemplate a possible future together.
Inspired by real oral testimony, this Hong Kong film offers a gripping glimpse into a hidden world while addressing the discrimination and isolation faced by middle-aged homosexuals. Impregnated with an almost childlike sweetness, this sensitive and infinitely touching chronicle finds the subtle balance between rawness and modesty, and benefits from the naturalistic play of its excellent performers. A mixture of obviousness, formal simplicity and human complexity that evokes the very greats of Asian cinema!
